Maitreya Buddha is the future Buddha. He is currently living the life of a bodhisattva. in Tushita. Heaven, waiting his time to come to earth in human form. This is said to be 4000 years after the death of Gautama Buddha. Maitreya is the only Bodhisattva worshipped by both the Hinayanists. and Mahayanists.

Here Maitreya is shown seated, with legs pendant. He is painted with gold paint in traditional Nepali style.
