Saint Francis (of Assisi) was a medieval monk and Christian mystic who founded the Franciscan order around 1208 based on the three vows of obedience, poverty and chastity. His courtesy, gentleness, humility and charm won many converts to his order. His love of the poor, sick and all animals is legendary.
This statue shows St. Francis with a wild wolf, charmed and tamed by the gentle saint.
