Prayer wheels are a Tibetan Buddhist invention, and are a common sight throughout India, Nepal and Tibet. This large table-top prayer wheel is decorated with Om Mani Padme Hum, the mantra of Avalokitesvara, in Newari script on the outside of the cylinder. Inside is a tightly-wound scroll printed with the mantra thousands of times, all wrapped in traditional red cloth. As the prayer wheel is spun clockwise, mantras are released, bestowing benefit on all.
This prayer wheel was made in the Kathmandu Valley by Tibetan craftsmen. The prayer wheel comes packaged in a lovely hand-made blue Lokta paper gift box.
